Physiotherapy after elbow fracture?

My 11 year old ds has just got his cast off after an elbow fracture. He was referred to physiotherapy but the next available appointment is 28th October!

Does anyone know any exercises we could get him to do meanwhile?

My DS recently got his cast off after an elbow fracture too. He was lucky that he got to see the physio straight away. There were three different exercises he was told to do, and I'll type them out for you. Sorry I can't upload the diagrams, but hopefully you'll get the gist:

  1. Stand leaning on a table with straight arms, palms flat on the table and fingers turned backwards towards you. Shift body weight backwards until you can feel the stretch on the inside of your forearms. Hold stretch for approx 20 seconds. Repeat 5 times.

  2. Sit or stand holding a hand weight. Bring arm to be exercised up with the elbow pointing to the ceiling. Support the elbow with the other hand. Straighten the arm holding the weight. Repeat 5 times.

  3. Support forearm on a table holding a soft ball or putty in your hand. Squeeze ball or putty for 3-5 seconds then relax. Repeat 10 times.

My DS is in his late teens so you might need to adapt the above to your son. They helped DS a lot and his arm is almost back to full strength now. He did the above a few times a day.
