What temperature do you give paracetamol at?

Hi Peeps,

Just wondering really as I have to fill in form for nursery allowing them to give calpol if DDs temperature rises after her MMR booster. I'm not sure what to put on the temperature limit though. I think at home I would normally give it if her temp is 38.5C but I can't quite remember as she hasn't had it for a while (she is 4yrs). Have looked online but conflicting advice.

38 is top end of normal. Plus temperature does a job in killing and infective viruses/bugs.

I'd only give capol at nursery if temperature raises and they seem uncomfortable. Playing normally I'd leave it.

If temp is above 39/39.5 they should be at home anyway imo.

But I wait until 39 on an ear thermometer as I agree that a temperature is no bad thing for helping to rid the bug.

As with others over 39 unless ill with it.

Only if they are unwell with a temp. If just a bit off-colour I'd leave it. Look at the child not the thermometer.

Did I read somewhere not to give calpol routinely after vaccination as it actually prevents the body producing the antibodies that the vaccine is given for in the first place?

Above 38 for me. As they not very accurate. But my first had febrile convulsions if got over 40.5 so didn't want to risk it

Definitely not below 38 unless/if otherwise unwell. We suffer massive fever phobia here

We don't. Let fever run it's course. Skin to skin.

I've just been looking at nhs advice as my DS has a fever and they say to give paracetamol etc if child has a temp AND seems unwell- distressed etc.
DS' temp was 39.3 in one ear, 38.5 in the other and I've given some because I worry about him having a fit whilst we are all asleep. He's more distressed now though after fighting us about taking the blooming paracetamol!
