Vaccination

I am beginning the divorce journey and have just come back from my first individual mediation session. My husband has stated that one of the things he wishes to discuss is getting our children vaccinated. I do not believe in vaccination but he does. Can he force me to have them vaccinated through the court? I have 4 children - ages 5,7,9 and 10 -- so vaccination for the older two would be pretty pointless as they only last 10 years, furthermore my husband is estranged and hardly seen the children since he moved out so I don't think they would agree to being injected either and only more resentment will come from this I think. Feeling very concerned at the prospect of having to tackle this in a mediation session!...

There have been a couple of cases put before the high court where one parent was anti and the other pro vaccination. The judge found in favour of the pro parent and the children were vaccinated. In one case one of the children was 15. So yes he could force the issue.

can you present him with a strong anti vax case instead I.e research and peer reviews. You may be able to change his mind once he sees evidence. There are a lot of respected doctors and scientists out there who make good anti vaxx arguments.

Thanks Caper 86 - I have just been on the phone to The Informed Parent which is a group set up to support anti vaccination. I don't want to fight this issue in court and cannot believe he has been happy to go along with it for 10 years and is now bringing it up! I know I won't win if it goes to court as the established view is always followed. I just wish I knew a way to agree to differ on this and not let this issue cloud the so many more pressing issues that we have right now...

I highly doubt that will be the case.

Considering you would lose if brought to court over it, you have to decide how far you wish to take your objections.

There really are not a lot of respected doctors and scientists who present good anti-vax arguments. There are, however, lots of woo peddlers who advance lots of shite anti vax arguments so I imagine if this went to court, the judge would side with the actual experts.
