How accurate and reliable are cough swabs?
Daughter has recently been ill, having two weeks of antibiotics then a week in hospital having IV,s for pseudomonas and acinetobacter baumannii complex growth in sputum.
On discharge they did a cough swab into a black and purple/pink lid container (forgot to ask what each was for). How likely is it the bug will be cleared and does it always show up as well as getting a proper sputum sample?
