Earplugs versus spray for swimming

Going on holiday soon but DD has had ongoing problems with ear infections and/or sore ears. GP recommended using earplugs (as there's a lack of wax to protect) but I've seen a product on Amazon called Earol swim spray which apparently provides a coating that prevents water from entering the canal. Has anybody used it? I tried the waxy earplugs in the bath last night without success as she found them too uncomfortable.
