Head injury

My son 2 years an 10 months hit his head an was in and out of conciasness for about half hour last night. Went a an e but didnt get seen as was there hours an he was fine in the end. Now he just had a tiny nose bleed. Should i b concerned or is it fine

If he'd been unconscious why wasn't he seen?

I'd go back to A&E. Nosebleed could indicate something more serious, especially if he has been in and out of consciousness.

Do you mean you left before you were seen because you didn't think it mattered that your 2 year old had been unconscious?

I am no head injury expert(!) but a child drifting in and out of consciousness seems bad!.
If he now has a nose bleed please call for advice or take him back urgently!

If my child had a head injury that knocked them unconscious I'd have dialled 999. Why on earth wasn't he seen as a priority, and why did you leave without insisting he was checked?

Erm. Yes, you should be concerned. Unless I've misread your op and your DS did get seen and they said he was fine? But even then, if he was unconscious yesterday and nose bleeding today I would get him seen again.

Was he seen by anyone at a&e yesterday? Personally I would take him back tonight. Head injuries aren't worth messing with.

Should add my dd knocked herself out for less than 30 seconds when she was 1. We called nhs direct (as it was) and they sent an ambulance. We had to stay in a and e for the rest of the day so they could do observations etc. Getting knocked out is taken really seriously!

Half an hour is a LONG time

He was drifting in and out of consciousness for half an hour and he wasnt seen by anyone?

No disprespct but did you tell them what had happened when you got there, didnt you insist he was seen when he was unconscious?

I cant believe hospital staff would ignore an unconscious baby!

Take him back to a & e and get him properly assessed pdq.

Nose bleed could be just a coincidence but better safe than sorry.

If there is a next time with any child unconscious please call 999.

You left without being seen? Did you tell them you were leaving? How did he bang his head?

Did you leave before he was seen op?
Did you take him back after the bleed?

My DS (13) was knocked unconscious for a short period earlier this year, and after a check over in A&E they sent him home. Still vomiting several hours later I took him back and he ended up having a ct scan. Was fine by the way.
Ring them and ask, but they will probably want to see and assess him. I'm a nurse and didn't risk leaving my older child be, let alone a 2 year old.

Thank you all for your comments. I took him back and they have no concerns. Everything he is/has done is normel for a head injury. Apparently. His head still hurts 3 days on and he is sleeping alot but they say thats fine.
