likely effects of MMR?

DD had her first mmr jabs last Wednesday.

Today she has a temp of 39.6, fast breathing (I assume due to fever) and she's being quite sick.

Is this likely to be the effects of the mmr or should I be assuming she's got another virus or something?

I can't get paracetamol into her unless it's a suppository and she's only got 2 left, I've not had any joy buying any otc and the GP is always so busy!

Unlikely to be the mmr. It's probably a virus. Give her paracetamol for the temp and fluids. Use the suppositories if she's being so sick she sing keep calpol down.

I've phoned all local pharmacies and luckily boots have a box of the suppositories I can buy (for a fortune!) so that's a relief. Poor poppet.

Vaccine insert suggests fever as a side effect is 'very common'. It is a live (weakened) virus so could indeed be a side effect of the vaccination. I would treat as you would normally do a fever and if you do need to see a GP. There is a low risk of serious complications.

Probably a virus. Hope she's feeling better soon.

It may well be side effect of the MMR and not really sure why people are suggesting it isn't - common side effects listed here:

My DC1 experienced all of these common side effects one after the other, which effectively meant he was pretty unwell for a month (missed 3 weeks of nursery just after my return to work, I was extremely popular as you can imagine). Not trying to be scary but just to say it can happen and it's just their immune system responding to the vaccines. Of course it's a huge pain in the arse.

That said, its not unusual or worrying really, and I do know several babies who barely seemed to react at all.

Of course it might also be an unrelated virus but actually you don't need to do anything different either way, just paracetamol, fluids, hugs and keep an eye on them.

When DS has his MMR he was sick as a dog, both times.
I took him back to the doctor who immediately diagnosed (as I suspected) that he was reacting to the virus in the vaccine.

I'm ever so glad it was that way round as real Measles, Mumps or Rubella would have killed him.
