What actually works for warts and verrucas?

I've two boys here, one with three verrucas and the other with warts on thier hand.

I've tried freezing them, End Warts (or what ever it's called) and that acid stuff (sorry can't recall right now - Salicylic?). I recall using something called 'Compound W' when I was about 10 I had to apply it daily and it went white and the wart (on my hand) eventually went. I'm presuming it was this acid though

They just WON'T go!

As a footnote (pun intended) there is no free at point of service healthcare where I live. GPs are expensive per visit (dermatologists even more so) but if this is the only solution obviously I'll pay!!

Have you followed the instructions closely with regards to how often to apply the ointment?

They will go of their own accord eventually.

It's a myth that they will all go eventually, some people (including myself) do not seem to fight them off. Had one frozen off at 22 that I'd had since I was 6.

I recommend Salactol. Don't file (as it makes it really sore), just apply, wait for the layer to drop off, reapply, repeat as necessary.

Lego that's true. I got one as a ten year old on my hand and by the time I was 11 I had 17! I got rid eventually with some strong ointment from the GP.

I had to soak my hands at night in warm water, then pumice stone them! Then I had to apply the ointment and I remember it stinging. They buggered off though.

We had success with the bazuka gel for verrucas - think that's salicylic acid too. You paint it on, then next day peel off any that is easy to peel and reapply. Every few days you also gently file away any dead skin with a nail file before reapplying. Most of the verruca came away in a lump in the bath after about 3 weeks of this. (Dd's tiny one only took a few days.)
I think the treatment cuts off its air supply so it dies. Some people seem to get same effect with duct tape.

Cat so did we when DD had to enormous verrucas! Very good stuff....OP you must follow the instructions though...and not forget to apply it.

Ok I dhpuld have qualified - they will usually go of their own accord. Which is why not many adults get them.

That's why I asked how long though.

Salactol is (AFAIK) stronger than Bazuka, therefore more effective IME. Bazuka just makes them sore for ages. Salactol works pretty quickly.

I'd go duct tape route, google it. Also anyone using nail files etc, have you cleaned them after each use on wart? Nothing like reintroducing the same bacteria to make a wart stubbornly refuse to go away!

Dh had a verruca for over a year and tried bazuka with no luck. He has been using apple cider vinegar for a week and it's almost gone! He soaks his foot, soaks a bit of cotton wool in the vinegar and then tapes that to the verruca with some fabric strapping plaster tape.

As PP said - Duct tape!! We used on DD very stubborn verruca following advice from the chiropodist. Worked a treat.

Got something called 'Wartner' yesterday. Apparently should been seen to work in a week - I'll see if it lives up to its claim.

I think duct taping the foot is easier than a small hand, so I'll look that up for the verruca boy.

I have tried everything including a freeze treatment at the dermatologist- hurt like hell, cost 100 euros and I still have it!! Now doing the cider vinegar and it seems to be slowly going...

We tried everything - including 2 weekly visits to the GP to get them frozen. GP kept telling us they would just go eventually but of course we felt dreadful with her toes and elbows looking as they did so tried most things out there. After around 3 years they have just gone away by themselves.

The warts really bother him. There's a good few over his hand, they seem to make him self conscious.

I have a wart on my finger that's been there over a year and is painful because it catches when I'm getting things out of my purse, bag etc.

I tried over the counter remedies and they had little effect. I've been using Apple cidar vinegar on it for a few days and I can see that it's dying inside. It's not a quick fix but it does seem to be effective.
