newborn constipated

Hi my 25 day old formula fed baby is constipated. She is going once a day when in the bath. Tried the bicycle leg movement but is there anything else I can try before it gets any worse? She is still passing wind and i have been using infacol and giving warm baths and baby massage.

My hv suggested using ready made formula, we used sma. There is something in it that can have a laxative affect.

We used sma and bub was once a day but the consistency was normal. I think aroubd 6 weeks she went in gaviscon for reflux which backed her up completely so I started giving her water on the side (10ml after a feed) and swiftly took her off the gaviscon. We continued to give her water through the the coming months which also meant when she went on to weening it was no probs drinking water.

Thanks will try the water. Have been using the ready made aptamil today. Give it another few days and then will ask the hv.

Also could try a mini bath at the opposite end of the day to current bath time? If she has nothing to come out then that's that but if she does then you know that the bath sensation is what she's waiting for

Once a day is quite common in formula fed babies. Unless the stool is hard little pellets it wouldn't be considered constipation and needs no treatment. Some normal babies go less often than this.

Is the consistency ok? If it is, it doesn't sound like constipation.

If it is constipation, bicycle legs alternated with clockwise, circular massage of the abdomen can really help.
