Been going on for about 2 weeks now where he just sleeps and sleeps and sometimes complains of a headache.
I've booked him in for doctors on wednesday but what else can I do? Should I be worried about this excessive tiredness?

If something doesn't feel right, then it's not right.

Babyburd · 25/04/2016 22:31

Best of luck, OP.

kelda · 25/04/2016 22:34

Agree you need to get him checked asap. Another possibility that needs to be ruled out is epilepsy. My DS started sleeping more when he developed epilepsy, also got headaches and his appetite and behaviour changed.
Epilepsy in some cases can be influenced by lights.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 25/04/2016 22:36

If either of my DSes slept that long I think I'd have to take myself to a&e as I'd be in shock!

If be very concerned if that was my four year old so I'm glad you're calling 111.

gamerchick · 25/04/2016 22:37

God I hate boilers in bedrooms, they give me the heebies. What kind of knob would place one there?

I feel worried for your bairn OP don't let yourself be fobbed off.

Artistic · 25/04/2016 22:37

Please keep the Carbon Monoxide alarm as close to the boiler as possible. We were told this by a BG maintenance person when he saw our alarm was downstairs near the cooking gas area. He indicated that the boiler is a much bigger risk, more so coz it's near the sleeping area. After that we just put the alarm on top of the boiler and kept its volume at maximum.

I am beginning to think that the gas may be your problem source - perhaps a low level of leakage...

MissBeaHaving · 25/04/2016 22:38

That's good,He definitely needs checking out Op & if it turns out it's a virus or related to one of the other issues you've mentioned I would still advise that you buy your own carbon monoxide detectors regardless of wether the landlords put them in (that goes for all people who rent!)

I'm not sure if it's still happening but the fire brigade had a scheme where they fitted free fire alarms & carbon monoxide detectors- it's worth asking.

kelda · 25/04/2016 22:39

And I wouldn't let him sleep in that room until the boiler is checked. You should have him sleeping next to you.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 25/04/2016 22:39

No helpful advice from me, just hope you get some good advice and help. Hope he's okay and it's just a crazy growth spurt.

Artistic · 25/04/2016 22:40

MissBea - I totally agree. I was a tenant and got my own alarm! When we moved and no longer needed it I gifted it to my neighbour as she didn't have one!

MissBeaHaving · 25/04/2016 22:41

Sorry another quick point, have you got the Gas safe certificates for the property?
The boiler etc should be checked & the paperwork should be available.

FranKubelik · 25/04/2016 22:47

Hope all goes well OP.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 25/04/2016 22:52

My husband knows about carbon monoxide and says it usually takes high levels to effect people, but you should definitely move him from his bedroom and see if there are changes. You're doing that, so that's good.

He says to get it checked for leaks by a Gas Safe engineer but obviously that's something you need to ask your landlord.

Make sure your son is given a blood test, that would pick up any carbon monoxide.

getyourfingeroutyournose · 25/04/2016 22:53

He has a referral to be seen tomorrow. They said to let him sleep tonight and the doctor has a duty of care to give him an appt in the next 24hours. If he complains of a headache tonight then I have to call back so I'm going to sleep next to him tonight and superglue the cpap machine to DP's head so I don't have to be with him. I've got the windows open as usual anyway but shut DS bedroom door just in case as well as his bedroom window being open. The cat has been in there all day. She seems fine but I'm going to ask letting agent to double check that everything is okay and tell them about DS being unwell. Hopefully this resolves it. If doctor tries to palm me off again I will ring 111 and ask for a different doctors surgery or somewhere else I can take him. Thank you so much everyone. I'll let you know tomorrow what the outcome is.

Good luck with the doctor. You are doing right getting him seen

t1mum · 25/04/2016 22:55

Good luck tomorrow and well done.

getyourfingeroutyournose · 25/04/2016 22:57

Missbea we have a copy of the certificate done in january and letting agent has the other one. I don't know how to read it though... I would assume it is all okay otherwise we wouldn't be in here.

OP posts:
getyourfingeroutyournose · 25/04/2016 22:58

DP can read them and he said it was all okay in Jan. they tested our cooker and he did a few other things too (went into our pipes cupboard outside to do something)

MissBeaHaving · 25/04/2016 23:08

That is good news,it sounds as if it's all been handled correctly,as I said there are good landlords about, always wise to check though.
You are doing everything you can so hopefully the doctor will give him a thorough checking over tomorrow & you will get to the bottom of why he's so tired & lethargic.
I don't think I've ever heard of a child sleep that much!
Update us if you get chance tomorrow & let us know how he is.Thanks

HeffalumpHistory · 26/04/2016 06:39

Hope you get on ok today op & your night was ok. Was thinking about your ds when I was up with my own last night Flowers

Goingtobeawesome · 26/04/2016 07:32

Listen to your instincts. I hope all is well.

starry0ne · 26/04/2016 08:11

hope you get some answers today

Penfold007 · 26/04/2016 08:15

Hope your DS had a good night and that the doctors appointment goes well. Ring the gas emergency line on 0800 111 999, they will happily come out and check your boiler etc for free. I called them out when my MIL's alarm started intermittent beeping and she did have a CO leak from the boiler. The engineer said they would much rather check a false alarm than a fatality.

oneoldmare · 26/04/2016 08:39

This sounds the same as my son when he was younger, he was probably around 6 yrs old and he kept falling asleep as soon as he came in from school. I would wake him for tea which he would eat then fall back asleep.
This went on for a few days and then he even fell asleep in the playground so I took him to the doctors, they sent him for blood tests which were all fine.
This carried on for a couple of weeks and the doctor said that it was just a virus and to let him sleep.
I was really worried at the time but it all was fine in the end, just his body doing what it needed to.
I'd maybe telephone and ask to speak to the doctor that you had seen before and ask over the phone if there are some blood tests that you can take him for, rather than wait for your wednesday appointment.
