Wart on face and also ...elsewhere.

My daughter (age 9) has a fairly large filiform wart on the side of her lip (pretty sure it is that as it looks just like the pics on the internet). We have an appointment with a GP and if the doctor won't remove it I will ask for a referral to a specialist (privately if necessary).

She also has a clump on these (or similar) right at the top of her vulva. Sad I have NO idea what to do about that but will obviously tell the doctor about those as well. I have asked her outright if anyone has ever touched her in that area and she was really shocked and insisted that no one ever had, so I'm not too worried about anything like that. I suspect she just transferred them herself.

She is sadly prone to warts but we have never had one of these before - just the flattish ones on finger and toes, and the occasional flattish one on her leg or hand. We've successfully treated these with duct tape before but obviously I won't be doing that. Shock

I just wonder what other people's experiences have been with these? My understanding is that most options have a possibility of scarring which is horrible to contemplate.

Are verrucas and warts the same?

Not sure. This isn't like a verucca though, it is kind of long and sticks out from her face a fair way. Delightful. She is pretty self-conscious about it now as everyone notices it.

I went through a phase between about 13 and 15 when I had tons of warts on my fingers and verrucas on my feet / toes. (I think verrucas are warts but they're called verrucas when on feet.)

Anyway, I initially had them 'frozen' at the GP. They come up in these huge, disgusting black blisters for a few days then gradually heal. But when they did I still had the warts! So that didn't work.

My mum then spent a small fortune getting the ones on my feet / toes 'cut' out at a chiropodist. It hurt like hell and left small lumpy scars where I was cut. Not fun. But they did go I suppose.

I still had the others on my hands though and even got new ones on my feet. And then - all of a sudden - they all just started disappearing! And when they went on their own there were no scars so the perfect way to get rid.

So my instincts are to advise just holding tight and it'll go on its own soon enough. I know that's going to be hard though.

But if it's really upsetting her then speak to the GP. Techniques must have improved in the last 20 years?

The ones on her feet and hands have caused her plenty of angst already as classmates commented about them. I know they can just go, I also had that happen.

But it just seems like it would be good if we could deal with them somehow? I'm also looking at homeopathy as I have had success with that in other areas, including warts. And yes, I am a rational non-mad person before anyone flames me.

I'm also wondering whether it is an immune issue? Is there anything I could do about that if it is? She eats well, gets exercise and has no more than the usual amount of colds and so on.

We treated ours with grapefruit seed extract but do ask your doctor just in case

My dd12 has had a single wart in the corner of her mouth for over s year now.
My friend who's a GP said to try the stuff from the chemist that's supposed to go on hands. It didn't work.
She also said it's very painful to have them frozen off and it's no longer available on the NHS.

One of my DDs had warts all over her hands and flat ones on her face. I used Salactol on the biggest ones on her hands but went to the GP 3 times about her face. They weren't really interested and the last GP I saw said they would get bigger and bigger and every new one would last at least 2 years. Someone else on here told me they had seen a private dermatologist at a Spire hospital so I found my local one and made an appt. DD was prescribed some cream for her face and they were all gone within about 2 months. Finger ones, face ones all gone.

I had similar. Went through hell as a child being dragged to various doctors and specialists, being poked, prodded, frozen, burned, and excised.

When i was old enough (teens) i point blank refused to have anything else done, and they all went within the year.

Research ive done since says that treating can cause them to spread, and also is rarely effective. The best way is to let your immune system deal with it, then they dont recur.

When at the GP require a blood test to check her immune system. Definitely.

What you describe are genital warts which are sexually transmitted but on low immune system person it can come from sharing a towel I am telling you this because your GP might raise the issue of sexual activity/abuse. Could one of the adults have the virus without the signs? From now on, don't share towels and change hers daily if not after each use and wash with antibacterial soap in hot water. Ideally use only white towel and wash with detergent, half a cup of bleach at 90 degrees

Careful with the acids near the lip, it can create a huge crater and the normal facial movements would make healing harder.
Ask to be referred to a dermatologist.

My son has a low immune system so he will catch warts,molluscs you name it. After trying so many creams, acids , I have found that what works on verrucas & co is the duct tape, either the grey serial-killer type , the black electrical or a strong surgical one. BUT DON"T use them on face and vulva!!!

Just a question: does she go to the swimming pool and sit on the benches or put her underwear on the bench while getting dressed?

As a child/teen I had warts. Had them frozen then removed. At 20ish was found to have the autoimmune form of thyroid disorder. Hope all goes well.

I remember seeing an Embarrassing Bodies programme about a child with warts (a LOT of them), it's probably still on their website - first thing Dr Christian suggested was immune tests. The little girl was seriously ill but the advice meant that she could be treated. I would definitely ask for immune tests.

My 4yo has a single wart on his fingertip; he also has asthma and eczema and gets every illness going. We're not having much success getting rid of it yet so I'm watching this thread for tips. I've not heard of grapefruit seed extract!

Jeffrey we put a few drops of grapefruit seed extract on the wart, we didn't take it internally

Hi @building2016 i know this is an old thread now. Just wondering if your still around and could let me know how your child got on? My dd has had a patch of warts appear on her chin and right jawline about 3 months ago and they aren't going away, the patch seems to be growing! Any tips? Thank you
