Is it ok to book a Dr's appointment for a child and then not take the child?

I have been having escalating problems with my DS with regards to his mental not physical health. He was referred to CAMHS and discharged 5 years ago but the problems he has are affecting him and the whole family and I need to find us some help. I was wondering if it would be possible to see the Dr for him without him there so I can talk honestly about him. he is furious if I mention any problems to anyone else so I would not be able to discuss this in front of him. However I don't want to waste the Dr's time if they can't see me without him there?

Just ring surgery and check -seems sensible to me but they might need to note it in the appointment. Or can you go straight back to CAMHS? (We are only just started with CAMHS so I don't know)

My sister is 27 but has had mental health problems since around 12. My mum still goes to her gp apps without her sometimes she allways has.

Just mention it to the receptionist when you call. I've always done it when I've needed to discuss my DS but he didn't need to physically be there. More often than not they get the Dr to call me to save me a trip.

Yes I think it will be fine. I have thought about doing this in the past.

If Drs said you can't do it, all you'd have to do is make an appt in your own name then discuss your child, so it would be daft to not allow.

You may have difficulties if the child is over 16 but I assume that is not the case?

Yes I did this for DD (wanted ASD referral) and there were no issues. She is 8 though.

Yes of course you can. Depending on the age of the child the GP may or not be able to share info with you - but you can certainly share your concerns.

Mine is 14 and can and does go to the Dr's without me, which is fine for the most part, but not this.
CAMHS have failed her terribly and I've spent most of today walking on eggshells worried she'll hit me again.

What I do in that case is ask the GP to phone me. I don't need to go in in that case.

Yes, I'm a GP and that happens from time to time . Sometimes we then arrange that the child is brought in "for a checkup" and I can then get the conversation round to he area of concern. Doesn't always work.....
