Big Belly in 7 year old dd

My eldest ds has commented several times over the last few months that dd age 7 has a big belly like you see in toddlers. She is a slim child tall for her age and I always said loads of children have big bellys. Tonight dd was complaining of a tummy ache around her belly button and I lifted her top up and I thought that from the side her belly reminds me of a pregnant belly. I am now stressing myself out with worry are big bellys in 7 year olds normal.

How is her toileting? Does she poo regularly? It can be a sign of Celiac disease or lactose intolerance. Go to the GP with her.x

She's probably not digesting her good properly which is a sign of intolerance to something. You could start eliminating key good categories to see which one it is, like gluten or dairy or soya

Thanks for replies yes I think I will check with the doctor. I was looking over some photos from last summer in her swimming costume and her belly was definitely not this big much flatter. I checked her this morning the size is the same and a bit firm i think. I am upset with myself now that I put it as all kids have big bellys. I'm actually quite scared I hope it's nothing serious.

Do not eliminate gluten from her diet - that's really bad advice. She must eat her normal diet until the GP has seen her.

Just following as my 7 year old DD is the same, down to the ache around the belly button. I feel so guilty it just seemed to creep up on me. She does suffer from constipation so that would have been my first suggestion. I've taken my DD to the quite a few times now but don't seem to get any other suggestions than constipation. She has been on softeners and laxatives for years but tummy just seems to look tighter and tighter. Makes me feel so sad and helpless

Took dd to the doctor today he felt her belly and said it was normal for girls of her age to have bigger bellys and to complain of aches! . He weighed her and he feels it is constipation so has put her on Laxose twice a day and asked for a urine sample to send off. No mention of anything else about her diet. I am glad I checked it out but not so sure if I feel reassured.

Good that he examined her. But I don't think 7yos do have big bellies actually. They've slimmed down by then. Even my chubby 6yo's belly has deflated. I'd await test results and then push for a referal if no improvement.

OP, have you seen the active thread on AIBU about taking a child to A&E 'with pictures' ? Hope it's not relevant to you but it might be.
