Upper lip tie

My almost 10 month old has upper lip tie, diagnosed by Dr Google and I. I'm noticing it more as I think she's teething so often poking around in there.

Is this a cause for concern? Should I see someone about it? Can they have them snipped on the NHS and is it just a few second job?

She's ff but a terrible feeder and am.now wondering get if I should have said something before!

My son has one of these he's a bit younger than your ds. Mine also had a tongue tie which was snipped on the nhs.

They don't do upper lip ties as they don't cause issues with feeding or speech the way that tongue ties do. Also they usually break themselves either when teething or if they fall over and bump their mouths when toddling.

The NHS won't do anything about lip ties unless there's evidence of feeding problems, speech problems or tooth decay (which can happen with lip ties). If they do a revision it will be under GA. Both of my children have / had a lip tie. They had a lot of problems with feeding. They also turned out to have posterior tongue ties that had been missed (lip ties are usually concurrent with tongue tie).

My dd had hers revised by laser (no GA needed) at 13 months. My ds is booked in for next month. He'll be 2.3 Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

I spoke to my dentist about this last week as my DD has one too. Hasnt interfered with feeding so he said they wouldn't normally refer unless child needing orthodontics later on - I had one snipped when I was about 13 as it was stopping my front teeth from coming together.

I would maybe just mention it to dentist at the next check up.

Penguin has given the advice I was given when I asked about 20yrs ago. I don't think dentists had lasers in those days!

Depending on the seriousness you can laser it out
Some are really nasty will keep upper two teeth apart and will hurt when brushing teeth
We had ours lasered out privately when he was 6 months

My son's upper tie was so tight it formed "pockets" above his front teeth. I had to lift his lip high up to brush the top of those teeth.
It didn't help - he has fillings in all four upper fronts. The dentist cut the tie whilst he was sorting that lot out.
