Strange habit. Not sure what to do..

Dd 6yrs has been doing this weird thing now for a while but it seems to be getting more frequent. She lies face down on the floor at home, puts her hands between her legs and presses on her pubic bone. She sweats, goes red in the face and seems breathless. She can't say why she does it and gets cross with me when I try and stop her. I've noticed that she's started doing it standing up now too! Thankfully, I don't think she does it elsewhere from home but it's starting to bother me now. Should I take her to the GP? Any thoughts? TIA.

It's masturbation. It's normal and nothing to worry about. She doesn't know it's sexual; only that it feels nice.

Don't shame her, just tell her that it's a private thing to do in her bedroom when she's alone.

Probably not. It feels nice, so there's no reason to stop, in her mind.

Just emphasise how private it is, and if you catch her doing it in front of her, tell her she needs to do it in her room. Hopefully missing out on family life/TV watching will discourage her from spending all her time upstairs

I remember doing this as a child! Didn't know what I was doing until sexually active many years later!
So embarrassing now I look back
