need advice asap please my 22mo is really ill

My 22mo has been vomiting for 5 days now he has only just been keeping water down the past couple of days and hardly any food , non some days. He has been to the doctors and they are not sure what is wrong they just tell me to keep water down him but I'm getting worried. Has anyone else experienced this length of sickness with there children before? He also sleeps most the day and night which is not like him at all. His ears are red aswell, his temperature is saying 35.6. Today is the first day he has had a runny bottom in a couple of days as well. Am I over reacting or should I get a second opinion from a different doctor or even hospital?

I'd be phoning OOH or 111 as it's a change in symptoms.

It's a long time to be vomiting. Dehydration can lead to more vomiting so it's a vicious cycle. Ring 111 as I think you probably need to be seen and possibly admitted for fluids (but I'm not a dr).

Yep ooh or 111. They may want him to have some diorilyte to help get some minerals into him. Xx

I will take him back to the doctors now and push them to do something about it. Iv never known such a young child be ill for this long if its only a sickness bug. Thank you all for your advice

I agree, ring either the out of hours gp or 111. Five days is a long time for a toddler to continue to be sick.

Are you giving very small amounts of fluid? Try giving just a teaspoon full every 5mins or so. You can mix up a rehydration solution with salt and sugar. Method here. rehydrate.org/faq/how-to-prepare-ors.htm

I would want him to be seen tbh. Ooh should look at him if your gp is closed. 5 days without food isn't a massive immediate problem but dehydration is pretty serious in little filk.

If he is keeping water down I wouldn't worry about the not eating too much but I don't think they would mind checking him out again. Sounds like a virus with the diarrhoea starting.

My little one was a similar age when she went through the same thing. 5 days and she too was very sleepy and lost weight etc. I took her to a drop in centre, they prescribed paediatric dioralyte and wanted to admit her to hospital if she didn't improve in the next 24 hours. Thankfully she did. Its definitely worth getting him checked out. Hope he's soon on the mend.

Yea I have ooh just up the road luckily and yes he is only having small amounts of liquid at a time . I have tried the dioralytes on him but he is refusing to have any of it even through a straw, syringe, big boys cup, just moving is working I'm running out of ideas methods to help him its killing me feel like I'm no help to him at all, I have never seen him this ill

Dd had this around that age, how about ice lollies? The icy ones, not the creamy. I remember trying to find a shop open on Christmas Day to stock up as was out of ideas. Hope he is better soon

Look, OP, I'm going to be harsh with you. We are not doctors. We can't see your little boy and even if we could, we can't diagnose him.

You have a little boy who's ill and you have a local OOH. Put his coat on him and take him there now. He needs help. You're his mum. You need to help him.

Please take him to OOH and don't take no for an answer, he is too poorly to leave. his temperature is actually worryingly low

I would be quite concerned about his sleepiness, and I think you should make sure he is seen again tonight.

I would be going to A&E and telling them that he is sleeping all the time, has a very low temperature and you think he may need to be admitted for rehydration.

If he was bouncing around with the other symptoms I wouldn't be concerned. But little children who are sleeping a great deal and seem very poorly, should always be seen without delay.

By the way my friend's little boy had to stay in for a few days once after a tummy bug. Just to have IV fluids. It was a hassle but generally I think as soon as they have fluids they improve enormously.

Definitely take him to OOH that's a long time for a young child to be without normal fluids. The low temperature would concern me too.

Yes, I did have a DC who was vomiting for 5 days and absolutely shattered. Raspberry dioralyte, if necessary mixed in with a little blackcurrant juice, even little sucks through a syringe is better than nothing. Let him do it. My DD likes the raspberry dioralyte but will not touch ice lollies when sick.

Is there anything that he really likes but that is bland? One or two plain crisps (one possibility being 'crisps' made for baby finger food or french fries) at least went down, even if they came back up, and the salt helps to stabilise? Small spoonfuls of apple sauce? Always very little amounts. But if you are worried about worsening of any element of it, esp. lethargy, then get him to a doctor.

How is he now? Dd had this last summer but was 5 y. O. I sympathise op. We had a 10 day on and off bug.
Paediatric duaoralyte or there was also another version she found more palatable - sips of this helped.
I also froze apple juice in lolly pops and gave to her to suck, or just ice to suck , they helped.
I also tried - various ice creams - tea spoonfuls of, custard, apple sauce, 7 up, cordial, crackers / slated crackers, teaspoon of honey,
All of the above possibly not great especially the 7up but I considered that any little bit helped. I know that the hospital did say 7upnwas not good in terms of the concentration of sugars etc but I was desperate for something to help/ work.
Took s long time for dd s appetite to return to normal

When this happened to me it was food poisoning and I eventually had to be admitted to hospital as I was so dehydrated after days of vomiting. Take your son to hospital is my advice. They will not tell you you're over reacting, he's very young. I hope you are somewhere now with him being treated.

How is he doing?
We are today on day 4 with DS. Same symptoms as your DC. Went to see a walk in doctor. DS even threw up right in front of the doctor but he was not concerned at all (I will not write down everything about the doctors visit as I posted my own thread about my sons feelings before)

I'm also worried already as he has a weight gain problem and is loosing weight again!
