Worried. 13 year old barely out of bed since Sunday. Glandular fever?

Starting to worry about dd. Barely out of bed since Sunday. Exhausted, intermittent tummy pains, intermittent headache, intermittent nausea. Obviously not been at school all week. Eating only small amounts when encouraged. GP phone consultation said to take her to surgery next week if no better. He did ponder glandular fever as a possibility.
Does this virus sound familiar - is something like this 'doing the rounds'. Have you or a family member had it? (reassure me that it isn't anything serious)

It could be another virus, at this stage it is hard to know. There has been one like that around here. Let her rest for now. I had glandular fever and my glands were so swollen at one stage I couldn't sip fluids only swill and spit soluble aspirin. I didn't eat for days. If she improves but the fatigue persists then a blood test will show if she has had GF.

My 6 year old and have been in bed since Sunday with exactly these symptoms. Never felt so exhausted! Tummy pains, aching joints, cough, mouth ulcer, the lot. It seems to be doing the rounds.

Okay thanks lovenancy - I hope that your 6 year old is better soon. Don't take this the wrong way but it is reassuring to hear that there is a virus like this, and others have had similar. DD has been ill many times before but this seemed out of the ordinary for its persistence! I tend to be paranoid when the dc are ill and imagine all kinds of nasties

Still cant stop stressing about it. I think I will phone the GP again

My son who is 14 has been off school all week. Bit of a temperature, sore throat, really fatigued and tight chest.
I am going to phone doctors today as he is also asthmatic.

My poor DD13 had also been ill since Saturday... she has been burning up and has a terrible cough. She is never ill, this is the first time she has been sick off school since starting Secondary.

Mine has been off since tues (14) headache, tired, fuzzy head, lying about, feels sick. I just guessed it was a virus

Well it could be but common or garden flu would also be a possibility (esp with a temperature).

Half DS's school have been or are off with a long-lasting fluey cold virus: headache, exhaustion, low appetite, fever (upto 39C) nausea, cough. DS is on day 8 now... and only just starting to look and act more normal. Awful bug.

How are everyone's ailing children? DD is still mostly in bed and thoroughly devoid of energy and motivation, but is eating a bit more (small progress).

My DD was off school all week... She is still coughing a lot but feels better. She has been out shopping with me this morning.

That's good to hear youngest. Mine is finally perking up too. She produced some art work earlier (she didn't have the motivation or energy to do anything like that before today), and I managed to get her out of the house for a gentle stroll with the dogs too! (although she was done in afterwards - the tiredness seems to be the last symptom to go)

Back at school Friday. Was up most of Thursday and playing on the PC so I said he was fine to go to school in that case! Appetite finally coming back properly today. Nightmare virus!

DD had this a few weeks ago - still not 100% GF ruled out, she ate jelly and ice cream for a week!! Still pale and tired although managing school

Yes we all had a virus lasting 10 days. First 3 days, temps, dry cough, normal 'cold symptoms', then 5-7 days of complete exhaustion and poor appetite on and off. Daughter lay on sofa for literally 10 days. Brought her to Doc on day 10, he said a virus can last 10 days and even a couple more to get over it. Got back to herself in the next day after. But was off school from the Tues to Fri first week and the whole of the second week.

same virus across the Atlantic- tummy hurting for a day, headache for 2 days, joint aches for 4 days, sore throat, raw, scratch, dry, swollen neck glands, dry cough-not all at same time- for 3 /4 days, very tired the whole time-a week- fever coming and going,little appetite. Not sure if its the flu? Fresh cold air helps +sipping vit c drinks, +zinc tablets and bed rest.Gradually shaking it off after a week.

Yes she has turned a corner and is considerably, if not fully, better now thank you Sally
