10 month old with cold won't drink ANY milk - Help!

Help wise mummies!

My 10 month old has always been a tricky feeder and has never drunk a lot of milk but since he got a cold he has completely gone off it. It's been a week now and today he didn't even drink an ounce!

He had a little in his breakfast and some water in his bottle and sippy cup. He has eaten some solids and we replaced one of the bottles with a yoghurt but even still I know it is important for him to drink milk until he is one.

Will his appetite return in a few days?

Has anyone else had this happen?

He is only on the 10th percentile so is only a little thing. I'm getting very worried he will lose weight...

Any experience/advice would be gratefully received.

Would be drink it from the sippy cup?

He most likely has a sore throat, decreased appetite and isn't interested in milk temporarily.

Mine is 13mo and recently totally lost his appetite, and he's a big eater. It's some sort of bug going around I'm sure, as he's back to normal now. He couldn't eat breakfast for two days which was a worry because breakfast is his biggest/favourite meal.

Try Calpol.

You are right, it's important your baby has some fluids, but you said he had some water which is good. You did the right thing providing yogurt too. It's very nutritious.

If loss of appetite continues for more than 3 days visit GP.

Sorry you did say it's been a week. Give GP a call, but they'll probably say if he doesn't want it, water is ok so long as he also consumes solids.

Is he drinking water? Is he eating?

DRSLondon · 18/01/2016 08:03

Thank you for this. It's just he seems to be less coldy and is sleeping better again so wondering why his appetite hasn't returned and when it will.
He is eating, not very much but just about enough. Mostly sweet things, not a great variety. And he is drinking some water but not enough really.
From the sippy cup he takes sips but doesn't drink a proper amount. Yesterday at bed time when he refused the bottle I gave him a bottle of water which he took.

Water is fine, the important thing is he's taking fluids and doesn't get dehydrated. Don't worry about the milk. Just let him eat what he wants and offer water if he'll take it. Yes it's important they get calcium but there are lots of sources for that and it's only temporary until he feels better.
