Hi ya, I have a 5week old, who has really bad congestion, he is is congested. Can hardly feed, it now at the point I can't lay in down for more then 10 mins or he can hardly breath, he can't feed with out screaming with frustration as he cant breath his nose, he has been rushed to hospital twice as gone blue as it was blocking his air ways,
I have been to the doctor who gave me saline nasal drops, I am at my wits end, to the point I have booked to see a cranial osteopath, any other suggestions

hi there, have just been through this with dd 11weeks.
calpol vaporiser plugged in a distance away from your LO. you can leave it on for up to 8hrs. maybe get advice from HV to see if it would be suitable for 5wk old.
we also got the snuffle babe nasal aspirator which you use to suck the goop from their noses. Sounds revolting but there is a filter to prevent a mouthful of snot and it really really helps!! I found that if the mucus had gone dry then pop the nasal drops in wait a wee minute then get sucking. worked a treat!!
It is so horrible having them unwell - sending hugs and hope it clears up soon.

I second that. Our 6 wk old is also bunged up and saline spray coupled with a snot sucker has been fab!

My ds was like this. There's very little you can do unfortunately. We bought a humififier for the bedroom which helped slightly. Does he have any other symptoms? Is it a cold or could it be an allergy? I gave up dairy (bf) because I read that can cause congestion. I was desperate after 8 weeks of it and would have tried anything.

And put a couple of pillows UNDER the head end of the cot mattress to raise baby's head.

Are you sure it isn't a milk allergy ?
My baby grandson had congestion at 4 am for hours couldn't latch on,couldn't breathe properly due to mucus. We took him to a cranial osteopathy at 6 weeks old who noticed he had swelling under his eyes. My daughter took out dairy and soya from her diet and within 1 week he was fine. He has recently had the same reactio when she eats eggs. Has seen a paediatric who feels it is cow's milk protein and egg allergy. He is due to see a dietician before he is weaned in a month's time.
Hope this might be helpful for you.
