chicken pox with just one spot?!

So co has been going around my sons nursery and a few children from his class have been absent because of it. He was sent home tue complaining of tummy pain, and sore legs. He also had a cough but no fever. I kept him off thursday mainly to let him rest though he still had cold symptoms. He went back to nursery yesterday and today with mild cough/cold. And tonight ive noticed just one blister spot on his hip?! Could this be chicken pox!?Ive checked everywhere else and nothing at all!?

DS1 had one spot for 2 weeks. Then about 20 in total. And that was that. Of course DS2 got the more classical chicken pox !

Did he have the cold symptoms the wole time?! His younger brother has cold too but no spots or anything (yet!)

DS1 was a right moody miserable man for a week or so before hand, but from the point that his first spot emerged onwards he was fine. We dusnt recognise it was chicken pox until the other spots emerged ! First time parents eh....

Can I jump in? When I put DD(5) in the bath earlier, her torso had about 10 spots. She's been fine, no cold symptoms or anything up to now. Other than keeping her out of school and hoping ds doesn't get it should I be doing anything??

Ds started with one little spot on his leg, but it wasn't long before he was covered in them.

Lots of Bicarbonate of Soda in a luke warm bath is amazing relief for itchy spots (even at 3am!)

DS started with one spot on his neck, then he had a matching one the other side the next day. Day 3 he had a few reddish bite looking marks on his chest and I still wasn't sure! Even took a pic to the chemist but they wouldn't commit. It def was though. Next day he was covered and they just kept coming. Good luck op!

When I had it, aged 2, I only ever had two spots. My parents were extremely careful about checking me over, as at the time my mum was still recovering from an extremely bad case of it which had appeared only two weeks after she had given birth to my sister. Thankfully, my baby sister didn't catch it at that time. Clearly my two spots gave me a decent level of immunity as I've never caught it since, despite being in close proximity to several cases, including my two dcs.

Thanks for replies i'll keep checking on him. I knew they came in waves but thought they'd appear quicker. Hes been exposed b4 and not caught anything and has had this one spot all day and nothing else! Maybe he'll wake up with more!? Hes no worse than having a cold. Coughing, runny nose, grumpy bit off his food and bit tired. Ive got calpol paracetamol and Poxclin Cooling moose from a friend incase it does kick in worse..
For the earlier post i dont think there is anything more you can do, try to ease the itch when it starts with cooling gels/mooses/calomile lotion, cut nails short or cover hands at bedtime to stop scratching and minimise infection risk. and hope it passes quick! :-/ X

Went out to the chemist this morning to stock up. She told me that the new advice on calamine lotion is to put it in the bath as it doesn't work too well when dry on the skin. Just in case anyone else didn't know that!

Calamine lotion isn't great but aqueous calamine cream is cheap and very effective. You have to ask at the pharmacy as it's never on the shelf.

We didn't have any luck with bicarb baths but porridge oat baths were brilliant.

So 1 spot friday about 7 sat and about 12 today.. When are they going to really kick in!? And hes barely itching, when do i start giving piriton? Or any itch relief!? :-/

I think my twins had it at nursery with just 5/6 spots. I asked on here at the time and lots of people said it was possible. Fingers crossed they had it 'bad' enough to give immunity and they don't end up getting it again!

DD is a bit miserable today, very sore throat, temp up and down and she was very itchy during the night. Lots note spots today too, including on her lips Sad. I started zirtek yesterday. Trying to gauge the rationing as it's only twice a day. At least the weather is dry if cold, so we got out in the garden for some fresh air and distraction.

DD2 (3) has just had it. About 10 spots in total including 3 nice big ones. One restless night and the rest of the time she was bouncing around same as always. I spent a bloody fortune on every kind of calamine cream, cooling spray and anti histamine going and she had one spoonful of calpol the entire time! It was a bloody long week....

Of course in all seriousness I'm delighted she had an easy time but there's a teeny weeny part of me thinking "is that it??" ( I'm joking of course)

Dd started with her first spots on Monday and her last ones appeared on Friday, she is totally covered Sad
