Flash in one eye in photo

I've seen loads of stories about this - when a child has a pic taken and one eye shows a flash. It's to do with some kind of cancer I think.

I know this sounds over anxious but I've taken a pic of my daughter from the side and it's happened in that pic.

I daren't Google as I don't want to frighten myself. DH thinks I've caught her at a funny angle as we've not been able to reproduce.

I've called the opticians to get her checked as I need as eye test anyway but not sure if I should be doing something else and how quickly if we are waiting sometime for an appointment.

Take a photo from the front this time and see if it is the same.

It's usually in every photo. But do get her checked in due course, if only to ease your fears.

retinoblastoma which is what often causes the white pupil is extremely rare, its much more likely to be the angle - your opticians is a good place to start, make sure they dilate her pupils with drops to get a really full examination of the back of the eye.

Thank you. I took the snap last week and saved it but then had a bit of a panic as to whether I was sorting it out quick enough. Waiting on call back from optician.

Commonest cause is a bit of a squint, but retinoblastoma is a possibility if it's all pics, so get checked by go or optician

Mine had this just before her squint came out aged 2. Turned out she was very long sighted in both eyes. We went to GP who referred her to opthalmology at the hospital, even though gp couldn't see anything wrong. By the time the appointment came round (about 3 months later) the squint was v obvious. Sorted out with glasses. Optician might be able to give you a clue earlier I'd have thought.
