Ds (2) started with a temp yesterday, been alternating calpol and nurofen as stated and rang NHS direct last night as it wasn't coming below 38.4 even with the calpol etc.
They gave the usual advice and said he wouldn't need to be seen but if it gets worse see GP.
Well he's just come out with a swollen eye, I've got him a Drs appointment at 4:40 but wondered if any of you knew what this could be in the mean time?
Thanks.

That's looks sure hope he is fine x

Looks like periorbital cellulitis. If it is he will need antibiotics usually IV antibiotics and a short hospital stay.
Hope everything is okay.

Poor thing. What did GP say?
Has it improved?

bonzo77 · 17/10/2015 06:16

I was about to say peri orbital cellulitis. I've had it twice. It needs careful treatment and monitoring: you might avoid hospital, I did.

Ds1 had something like that a couple of years ago. It was a particularly virulent form of conjunctivitis caused by the cold virus - it was doing the rounds at ths time & the daily mail of all papers had an article about whatever it was. It also led to a bacterial infection in the skin around the eye & needed antibiotics (his first lot for 13 years at the time - I don't dish them out lightly) - you're doing the right thing getting it checked out.

Devilishpyjamas · 17/10/2015 06:24

Warning: daily mail link -this is what ds1 had although it had also caused a bacterial infection around the eye (maybe from rubbing? Ds1 is severely autistic so we struggled to stop him rubbing it)

The GP said just a virus :/
Seems to have settled down but keeping a close eye on it.
But I'll know what to look for if it happens again, ashamed to say id never heard of the above before posting on MN.
