5 month old with cough

My son is nearly 5 months old and today he has been coughing quite a lot. He doesn't seem to have a cold or be ill. The cough doesn't sound serious but he is doing it a lot. I don't know if i am over worrying or if this could be something serious.
Thanks

I was always at the doctor when my son was little and had a cough - found it impossible to know if it was serious or not at such a young age. I think if they have a fever and are not taking any milk (or coughing so badly they're sick) those are signs they maybe need to be seen sooner rather than later. Or if the cough has lasted longer than two weeks I think. Or if it sounds like a seal barking (that's croup and he would need to be seen ASAP.) But if he seems well in himself and you'd like reassurance then just take him along to the doctor tomorrow, they never mind seeing babies. In the meantime, steaming him in the bathroom might help. I sympathise, it's such a worry when they're unwell and you want to make sure they're ok but you don't want to seem like an overprotective mother either. Thanks
