DD hallucinating?

DD has just woken up and called me but acted really strangely not like herself at all. She called but then when I went in couldn't stop giggling and couldn't remember what she'd done today. Though she then spelt Mum and said the correct number of fingers I was holding up. Her temperature if anything was quite cool at 35.5 and she then said she wanted to go to sleep.

Me and DH are now worrying totally. She has been having nightmares recently quite a lot but a lot later at night usually around one or two in the morning. Any ideas please? (We do over worry as she is prone to febrile convulsions).

She called so I thought she was but she seemed so very out of it when I spoke to her, thinking about it I'm not sure she was now.

How old is she and how did you take the temp (under her arm, forehead ear)?

Ear thermometer and she's 5 - will be 6 in December.

Are you sure the thermometer's reliable? Ours always measure a little low when they're running out of batteries. Check yourself to be sure.

Fair point about the thermometer as can't remember when the batteries were changed but she didn't feel overly warm either as I kissed and felt her forehead to see as well.

Foreheads are not an accurate reflection of body temp, try the back of her neck and take your own temp, see what the thermometer reads.

Sounds like she was still asleep and it was a type of "sleep walking". Ds did this once, it was like a waking dream. He wasn't really there, talking about strange things, but at the same time answering some questions. But then he just went back to sleep again and had no memory of it in the morning.

Sleep walking? Ds has done that. Acted strange and I've had conversations with him and he can't remember it in the morning. My dbro used to do the same as a kid.

Ds did that kind of thing a few times. He appeared to be awake but was actually in a sort of waking dream where he could see but seemed to also be hallucinating/dreaming! Was very weird and hard to deal with at first because he was very agitated. In the end I realised it was best if I firmly told him to go back to sleep. He seems to have grown out of it now.

Checked thermometer now and it's ok and DD temperature seems fine. She was quite stressed tonight going to bed as she was worrying about another nightmare.

Keeping my fingers crossed this was a strange one-off sleep walking experience as per Chris, Custard and What experiences. Thanks for that my nerves are calming down a bit now. If my Mum were in this country I'd be asking her if I ever did anything like this as well!

Has she started school recently? Her sleeping patterns could be messed up, making her prone to sleeping problems - sleep talking, sleep walking, sleep paralysis, hallucinations and vivid dreams. It's normal for body temperature to decrease during sleep.

Sounds like sleep talking.. My DH does similar in the middle of the night!

DS was prone to febrile convulsions (so I'm with you on the bloody terrifying) and did also have an episode or two of what I technically called 'going doolally' when running a fever. Id keep an eye in case she is brewing something.

He also sleepwalks though which leads to some very weird conversations. My favourite was his appearance downstairs, stark naked. 'Just looking for some pyjamas Mummy?' 'But you had them on when I put you to bed' 'Oh.' He had removed them in his sleep and then forgotten all about it

Hope she is OK in the morning!

No second year of school and seems to be ok there.

But she has had about two weeks of intermittently waking up with nightmares in the muddle of the night and she did seem very tired today as a result as she had a really bad one last night which really upset her.

Cheers for that I'll be keeping an eye on her in case another fever is brewing (though touch wood we've not had a febrile convulsion for a long time and I'm hoping she's growing out of them!)

DD woken up this morning seeming fine and doesn't remember waking up in the night at all. She said she'd slept very well!

I used to hallucinate as a child and it was only when I became an adult that I realised the hallucinations were as a result of migraines
