Sad poor little man. My 4 week old has caught a cold from his big brother and sister and is very snotty and a bit miserable. There's nothing I can really do is there? I have a nasal aspirator and am bfing so hopefully some antibodies will kick in fairly quickly (although have been on antibiotics myself so that's probably killed all my good bacteria too!). Will keep him close tonight but any other suggestions? Or warning signs? Is it the breathing into their ribs that is a bad sign?

You can tilt the Moses basket up a bit at the head end.
Put him in the room while you have a shower or bath for the humidity.
Hope he feels better soon. Snot on your breast as you feed him is pretty disgusting, I had some earlier with my snotty baby!

Steam/humidity is good. Taking sufficient fluids is important, watch hydration. Laboured breathing or a fever are signs to be very careful for. Any pulling in under the ribs or around the throat, fast heartbeat, working extremely hard to breathe or a temperature above 38. Any listlessness, unusual fatigue, excessive sleepiness etc.

Chances are he'll be a bit sad for a while but fine in a few days.

I did a class on this before my son left the nicu I think the main things are tucking in under the ribs & flaring of the nostrils. Raise the moses basket mattress a couple of muslins should do under the mattress if breathing is bad at night will get worse during the night as all breathing is more strained at night so if really worried at night go to hospital. Good luck my son seemed to constantly have a cold when he was very young hope you alk feel better soon Flowers
