Newborn cold

My 4 week old ds has a cold passed on by my 2 yo dd. Last night he and I got almost no sleep unless he was on me- I can't co sleep as I have epilepsy so can't do this. Is there anything I can do for a baby so young? I feel so sad for the little guy and am also keen for a bit more sleep tonight as toddler dd needs looking after

One thing you can try is nasal saline drops, which are suitable from birth - I think with DS I used to use them just before a feed, so they'd help clear his nose as he fed. Then if you can face it get a snot sucker to hoover up the snot after the feed, and hopefully they'll be able to breathe more easily.

Haven't got this working properly with 2wo DD who also has a cold though - maybe the reminder to myself of what I did last time will help!

Just resurrecting this as poor ds is still suffering with a blocked nose and he also has slightly gunky eyes. Is this worth a trip to the doctors or is it pointless? He is feeding normally

You should always go to doctor if a baby less than 3 mo is unwell

Good luck

I'd have him looked at. My ds caught a cold at 2 weeks old and everything i read said that children under three months with a cough or cold should be seen by a Dr.

It's positive that he's feeding well though.

Poor ds. I felt so helpless with my ds. He was so congested he could hardly breathe.
