Hand Foot & Mouth - confused about quarantine

Hello

DS (15 months) has caught HFM from the childminder (well, probably one of her other charges but you know what I mean!)

The Public Health England guidance says that he doesn't need to be excluded from childminder, but I've seen lots of threads on MN about people quarantining their DCs who have HFM. I'm a bit confused, since of it's OK for DS to go to childminder, why would I need to quarantine him at other times?

He only came out in the rash last night/today and so he's effectively been in quarantine anyway, but the childminder is happy for him to be there on Monday. Any advice/insights? I don't want to be irresponsible.

Also, I'm 15 wks pregnant - as far as I can see I'm not hugely at risk of catching it from DS, and it wouldn't be too bad even if I did, but any insights into this would also be welcome.

Thanks!

When my DS caught HFM they asked me to keep him off nursery because one of the staff was pregnant so there was a risk.

DSs nursery excludes for HFM until spots crust over

Both my husband and I caught it from our dcs, despite it being "uncommon" and "mild" Dcs had a couple of spots and weren't unwell, DH and I were covered in lesions and felt very unwell for more than a fortnight. I would even go as far as to say it was about the illest we've both felt in decades. Make sure and be scrupulous about hygiene as I really would not have liked it when pregnant

I remember reading that pregnant women less than 12wks had a very small risk from hfm. but you're probably immune. you must have had it before. quarantine is 2 wks from first spot I think. I know my ds passed it on 5 days after his spots disappeared. he'd had it mildly, a total non event, the next child was hideously ill, infected spots abd multiple courses of antibiotics, totally ruined their xmas, I felt awful about itBlush
