Facial Mole Removal

Hi

My DS has a rather large mole in the middle of his forehead. He is due to start nursery in September and more and more children his age keep asking about it. I'm really concerned he will be bullied for it when he gets older (some kids can be really cruel).

I am looking into the possibility of getting it removed but my GP hasn't been very helpful.

Has anyone had a child who had mole removed by laser for cosmetic reasons?

Sorry if I sound vain but I was bullied at school and really don't want the same for my DS.

The NHS is very reluctant to remove facial moles as they can leave a scar which can be as distressing as the original mole. I know someone that really had to fight to have three moles removed that were over an inch wide each and probably getting on for 1/2" high too, and they were on the side of the face, so not totally visible.

If you are willing to go private you may have more offers, but you may also find that they too are reluctant. Sometimes scars can stretch as a child grows too, and become bigger.

Dn had one like this, not removed until teenager because of scar growing as she grew. Very successfully removed when she was 15. It was very visible too but didn't get bullied, thankfully.

Apologies if there's a reason why you have discounted this but if it's in the middle of his forehead can't you just let his hair grow into a fringe to cover it, rather than the more drastic removal route?
