How to get penicillin into 16mo?

Any tips on getting penicillin into my 16 mo DD? We've got a 10 day 4 x per day course and it's not going well so far. She just seems to want to spit it out as it tastes bitter. The day doses I can disguise with yogurt on end of syringe but how do you manage the middle of night ones?!

Is it the evil red one? My lovely pharmacist exchanged mine for a stronger more concentrated version so I did not have to give as much/ often (or wash as much out of my hair). Other than that work quickly pinch nose gently & squirt inside cheek at the back of the mouth. Blowing in face also triggers a swallowing reflex. Chocolate buttons all round afterwards (yes it might be 3am but hey ho bigger picture and all that).
Hope DD feels better soon poor thing it's vile stuff.

Yep it's the luminous orangey red one. She just spat it out this evening and that was with a bit of calpol on the end of the syringe. Tasking DH with administering it but if we're struggling then I'll go back to pharmicist and see what can be done.

Thanks for the tips- chocolate buttons will definitely work!

Don't wake in night to give dose. Just space out during normal awake hours. That is totally fine.

We were brutal. Just sucked it up into a calpol syringe & got medicine into her mouth. It's horrible but necessary. Immediately follw with something nice, like a chocolate button, or a favoured food, eg strawberry or a piece of cheese. And yes to spacing out through the day, instead of waking at night.

Do it mixed with Calpol. it was the only way my strong willed little one would have it. Pharmacist recommended it this way.

I've always been told by gps to ensure you do the doses through the night and not just in the day. Sounds like it's ok to do wake her in the night though.

I fear we will need to go down the mixing with calpol route as I too have a strong willed little one!
