He's often suffered from sicky breath which we've put down to his intolerance to gluten but I've noticed a few times that his breath smells like urine. Today it was really strong - anyone have any experience of this? Should we see GP?

Yes, I would take mine to the GP for that, first thing Monday.

Google ammonia breath smell. Keep calm and draw your own conclusions.

My dd gets this if she's unwell and hasn't eaten enough because of being ill. I'd say it smells more of nail polish remover than urine. Let me know what the doctor says.

Ketones. As you say, it's often just because people aren't eating enough; people who are dieting too hard tend to smell ketonic, as it's a product of your body using fat as a source of energy.

Less commonly, it can be an early symptom of diabetes.
