Small 12yo showing breast buds?

My 12 y o dd is 132/133 tall. I believe she is a late bloomer as a few years back an x-ray taken had shown that her bone's age was about 2.5 years behind. She is the shortest in her year or almost. Last few days I noticed that her breasts have raised slightly. She s my first child I don't what to expect. Does it mean that she will only grow another one to two years or just another 10 to 20 cm?

I think you shouldn't really be worrying about it to be honest.

DD had breast buds at around 9, and is still growing now 5 years later.

I don't think it means anything at all. she's onlt 12, she has another 8 years of growing to do, in all directions. And all children have growth spurts in either weight or height at some point.

My DD is 8 and has them - she's tall for her age but even so, there's no way she'll stop growing by the age of 10! I have heard that periods tend to follow about 2 years later (I was 10, so that would make sense) but I haven't heard anything about growth being affected.

My DS also had them at the age of 7 - he's 15 now and still growing!

When look at any growth charts or tables etc should I use her bone's age or actual age?

If you really are worried op then talk to a gp. But if she grows another 20cm she will end up about 5' surely? That seems a reasonable enough height to me.

I thought the link was more to do with menarche, that growth tends to slow after this rather than first signs of development.

I think actually I would ask the gp, unless she is only just 12 according to dd's red book she is barely above the 0.4th centile line.

I know this is a bit old know but I wondered how your DD is. I've been in a similar position with mine and found she had advanced bone age, I guess your DD will grow for longer?

With advanced bone age, girls can stop growing by 11 or 12, but if bone age is delayed, they could grow until 16 so it makes a huge difference. Bone age can also advance quickly with no outward signs which is why the assessment is so important if a child is at the bottom of the growth charts.
