Blood tests

DS had a blood test last Monday as he has had tummy pains for a while now. Results came today and receptionist told me all ok except his full blood count and we need to see doctor on Thursday. Mum died from acute myeloid leukemia two years ago now im going in to panic overdrive. Please reassure me

I'd have thought that if there was a serious concern, they'd want you in much sooner than in 3 days time.

Could you see if there was a sooner appointment?

I've been going through similar with dd2. She's had tummy ache since September and various test including bloodtests.

If it was leukemia they'd have him in hospital by now. Really. No way would they wait until Thursday.

The only thing dd2's blood tests have come up is deficient vitamin d. For that they said "come in to discuss some point in the next week" which is much more what yours sounds like.

But good luck, it's hard not to worry. My imagination has blue lighted her to hospital on one or two occasions when she's been feeling particularly bad and the GP starts thinking of other tests they could try.

Thanks guys my sensible head tells me like you say they would have had him in asap if it was serious but my neurotic mother head is on over drive! Will let you know what it is Thursday x

It's probably something like low iron. Also, an infection can result in a high white blood cell count.

omg! the doctors read his results against adult norms hence the 'problem' so thankfully no problem but the last few days of worry have been a bit bad!
