Hearing problems & snoring

I have been searching some old threads to look for a recommendation for an ENT surgeon that I can see privately. My little boy (nearly 3) snores really loudly when he is sleeping and to me his tonsils look quite big but I don't really have anything to compare them too and I have suspected for a while that he can't hear all sounds, I often have to speak up. Thought at first he was ignoring me! My GP wants to 'watch and wait' but I would like him to be seen. Does anyone have any recommendations for an experienced ent doctor. I don't mind travelling to London. Thanks in advance

Try to get a referral to audiology for a hearing test to confirm any hearing loss.
Given the snoring and the age, I'd guess it's enlarged adenoids and glue ear.
They'll try antibiotics to clear the fluid and alleviate the glue ear, then (depending on current practice in your authority) hearing aids or grommets. If they put grommets in, they'll probably take the adenoids out at the same time.
Glue ear is common in children that age, most outgrow it by about 6 or 7 years old, as eustacian tubes widen and slope with head growth.

Try the Portland in London, if you're willing to go. A lot of their ENT team do their NHS work at great Ormond street.

Where are you based? My 5 year old just had adenoids out and ears drained by amazing surgeon. We saw him privately in Bristol. He's also the lead surgeon at Bristol childrens hospital.

Thanks so much for all your replies. We were recommended to Mr Patel at the Lister in London which was easy for us to get to. As I suspected, my little one has reduced hearing and large adenoids but Mr Patel was so lovely and with my son and has reassured me that he can give him the right treatment and will follow up with hearing tests. Bit scary but a relief to have a definitive answer.
