My poor DS1 has no been ill for over a week, but it's the oddest illness. He said me up one morning being sick. Was sick again and then slept for 5 hours and was fine after that. The next 3 days he was fine, then the same thing happened but he was sick just once. That was Tuesday morning. He was fine Wednesday but then had diarrhoea on Thursday morning. Absolutely fine yesterday but has just woken again feeling sick and has produced a small amount of diarrhoea.

His younger brother attends nursery which has had a D&V bug going round so we know where it has come from but I just don't understand what's going on. Is it time to call NHS direct?

It happened to DS when he was almost 4. It lasted a few weeks.

It's odd that nobody else has it, but it may well be viral and he may be getting re-infected. Maybe he is more susceptible to it, but you could be carriers.

For now, I'd make sure to disinfect all surfaces that he is likely to touch, wash bedding and his clothes at the highest possible temperature with a bit of bleach or disinfectant. Wash everyone's hands thoroughly and frequently.

If it continues throughout the week then I'd go to the GP.

Thanks. Oddly he seems to be constipated now. He wants to poo but can't. Horrible isn't it!

Ah, make sure he is not actually constipated.

It could cause him to throw up, and, reportedly, a blockage could lead to liquid poo to leak around it.

How does his belly feel like? Is it hard? Can you feel hard lumps on the sides?

No harm in calling 111 (NHS direct has actually closed) for proper advice.

There's a hard lump of two in there. Have spoken to a pharmacist who has said constipation and given us lactulose for him. Hopefully that will help.
