Lo is 7 months old and has what u think is a cold since Wednesday. Runny nose, slight cough, red eyes, extra sleepy and irritable. I am also suffering a head cold. Lo normally sleeps 7-7 with out any wakening for a long time maybe since 3 months old. The last two nights lo has gone down to bed and slept but after the first hour they are wakening screaming in pain but can't figure out why, no wind doesn't want a feed, nappy is fine etc nothing is consoling lo and at a lose. Is having difficulty breathing a bit due to blocked nose have tried calpol and saline drops but am at a loss. Dp has suggested to ringing out of hours but is this extreme for an cold or is it maybe something else?

I read on a parenting site that if cold hasn't gone in 5 days or any breathing problems to take to doctor :/

Hello Op. Sorry to hear your LO is not well. Us your LO feverish? Any rash?

I think it us a good idea getting them checked over. Your LO could have an ear infection etc
I hope your LO gets better asap x

Firstly, jealous of the 7-7 Envy

Secondly, my ds 14m has had cold, I've had head cold (for a fucking week) and he is waking suddenly with a squeal that sounds like pain. I thought it might be that he was kissed off at not being asleep or maybe he has sinus pain...Hmm...not going to get a doctor's badge with my diagnosis skills.

Big things to watch for are temperature, being responsive, drinking/weeing.

HTH

Does she have a high temperature? Is she drinking OK? For the nose you could try snufflebabe (baby Vicks). Ring OOH for advice if you are worried but if her temperature us OK and she doesn't seem dehydrated, limp, no rashes or anything then it seems like a cold.

I think il stick it out tonight unless lo gets worse and then see ring gp tomorrow could not bear another late night hospital trip :( lo just sleeps does 10/15 mins then dies the most heart wrenching cry and won't stop for a long time then settles again and repeat. Temp is 37.6 so not to high although this is and hour after calpol not sure what it was before this

Raise the head of the mattress to help with any congestion

PartyFops · 18/05/2015 22:15

Teething, often makes them grumpy and snotty.

My youngest dd used to be prone to ear infections. Every cold would result in one. She was also a good sleeper but if she had an ear infection would wake after an hour screaming. Other signs of an ear infection for her were she'd pull at her ears through the day or shake her head side to side. She would be really irritable too. I'd get your lo checked out by dr

BlackBettyBamALam · 18/05/2015 22:20

Re the baby vicks, rub a bit on chest and back (between shoulder blades). Don't use adult vicks, it's too strong.

My DC when that age used to wake crying due to congestion, so raise the head end of the cot if at all possible

pilates · 18/05/2015 22:20

Yes I was thinking ear infection.

Get her checked in the morning.
