Coloured glasses for Meares-Irlen/Visual Stress - pros/cons?

Wondering if anyone has experience of this.

Ds2 has been having vision therapy to correct problems with his eye muscles and it's really helped. He mentioned that when he looks at bright colours, especially against white, it 'hurts' his eyes and head. Mentioned this at his appointment yesterday and the therapist tried some overlays with him.

The second he used one particular colour he had a huge beam on his face as he said the words had finally stopped jumping about - the difference in his reading speed was incredible.

He's going to have a proper colorimetry test at the weekend and it was mentioned that it might be worth him having coloured lenses rather than just using overlays - he's yr6 so most things in school are whiteboard-based.

Have any of your dcs had lenses rather than just using overlays? What pros/cons have you found?

Thanks!

In my school a number of pupils have had glasses with coloured lenses and generally speaking they are far superior to coloured overlays which are easily forgotten, lost, don't fit the text etc. I would recommend lenses.
