My DS has chicken pox. Started off as hardly any but woken up this morning with loads more and really itchy so got some piriton this morning from the chemist. She warned me that it will make him really, really drowsy. So I bought a new DVD for him to put on and brought the duvet downstairs to chill out.

But oh my lord!! This child is SO hyper has not himself he's destroying everything in sight, running around and yes, he's not concentrating on scratching those pox anymore but he won't stop. Bedtime in about an hour and no signs of slowing. I'm knackered as he was up all night crying because his pox hurt! Sad

Piriton made my DS sleepy and helped with the itching. he's trying my patience today though so I know he's feeling better Grin

Sadly, some children react in this way to piriton, but it's imposdible to know this until you try it!

Yep Piriton worked a treat with DS1 when he had CP - straight to sleep

But DS2 just went loopy - tried twice and never again! Seems like some people just don't agree with it.

Or rather it doesn't agree with them IFYKWIM

I get what you mean Karma, but DS2 went very very hyper active the two times I tried it - very unmistakably different to too much sugar (I'm a bad mum - they get chocolate and biscuits)
I spoke to a pharmacist friend who told me that the active ingredients can have an adverse reaction in some people and I must mention it if ds2 was ever having an allergic reaction or prescribed anything for hay fever etc as we'd need to avoid it (the name is on a card in my purse but not going down to get it)
