DS' poor bum

DS started with a bad case of "nappy rash" over a week ago.

I started applying metanium which usually clears anything. Even nursery mentioned how red he was and that his bum had been bleeding (the rash I mean). Carried on which more frequent than usual nappy changes, nappy off time, metanium and still bad. His poo seems to (aswell as stink to high heaven!) have a dehydrated urine smell about it. Took him to the Drs on Monday and the Dr said could be bad nappy rash but prescribed some canestan too in case it was thrush. Ive been applying it and it seems to go from almost gone to a red angry little bum. The redness seems to appear only after he poos. Not when he just has a wet nappy.

Any suggestions as to what it may be? TIA

My little boy is the same atm, how old is your baby?
Is he teething, and how many dirty (poo) nappies is he having?
Have you tried vaserline? Around the anus so the poo dosent annoy the area as much.
I find metanium good but if there pooping a lot then it flames the area more as need to rub harder to get the mess Iyswim.
I have been using sensitive wipes, then drying the area completely and letting as much air get to it as possible.
Then vaserline during day and metanium last nappie at night before bed.

Thanks for your reply Corster He's 8m and having 2-3 dirty protests nappies a day. He has his first 2 teeth come through over night on 22 March and I did wonder if I could see another tooth bud under the gum this morning.

I have taken ti using just a soft flannel and water and letting him air as much as possible this boy pees like a fountain!

Aww I hope his bum is cleared up. When my daughter was 10 months was taken to hospital with a urine infection and had a bad nappy rash had tried all the creams but the doc treating her gave us timaden cream and I swear it was magic noticed a big difference by next nappy change and the one after that it had cleared up she is 28 months now and still get it from the docs as it's brilliant stuff

Any chance it could be thrush? It's usually raised red dots with outlier spots. Both DD and DS had it in their bowel (hence poo causing flares rather than wee) particularly when getting molars. Dd was also allergic to mushrooms which we realised at the same time. For my two, strong probiotics (udos child/infant blend) ,cutting out mushrooms, and applying been oil at every nappy change worked like magic. Dd had been through various otc ointments and 3 steroid creams in 3 weeks, and this magic combo cured her in about 48 hours. The need oil is anti fungal and seems to soothe and heal the skin really well. Be warned though, it doesn't smell great! (Worth it for the result though)
