Ds who is 8 unfortunately had to have a filling on a baby tooth a few weeks ago. Complained about a week ago of pain in the area but by the next mornings no it had settled down and has not mentioned since. Last night at bedtime I was brushing his teeth and some blood came out. He didn't complain of pain but when I pulled his cheek back there was a large swelling on his gum near the site of his filling. It looks like an abscess. I made him rinse his mouth out with salt water and this morning it looks less swollen but it more yellowy. Should I try and get to an emergency dentist today? He is not in any pain and happily eating breakfast this morning.

I was a dental nurse for several years. Sounds like it or a gum infection. I would def take them to an out of hours emergency dentist as they may need antibiotics and if theres pus coming out and being swallowed it can make them poorly.

Thanks mummy. Took to out of hours and redressed with antibiotic preparation and temp filling. Will make an appointment to see own dentist tomorrow.
