Faecal impaction?

Dd is a very skinny 5yr old. This past week she's been complaining of tummy ache but I've put that down to constipation. She regularly goes for days before opening her bowels. Her tummy is now swollen which I've not seen like this before. I've tried to get her to go to the toilet but nothing's coming. I've given her Movicol for a couple of days but to no effect. No gp obviously until Tuesday. Should I take her to minor injuries?
TIA

My ds has suffered with this in the past, movicol will work but you will need to build up to maximum dose over 2/3 days. I think 8 sachets a day is recommended as maximum.

Ds was prescribed sodium pico sulphate which made the world of difference- is there a walk in centre local to you?

Definitely ramp up the movicol to maximum though

Thanks for quick reply Ohmymg. It's hard to get her to drink the movicol unless I dilute it well with apple juice! I'll try and increase the dose today though. The swollen tummy and pain is concerning me. We do have a minor injuries drop in centre but I don't know if they'll see her with it not being an 'injury'..

Maybe try ringing 111 ? They may know if minor injuries would see her.

Any news bensam?
I agree it's difficult to give movicol, I struggle for over a year giving it but not actually using it correctly and giving it in a high enough dose.

We were referred to a consultant who was fabulous, we did a week of movicol building up to 8 sachets before very slowly moving back down and giving the pico sulphate.
Since Xmas ds has had 2 doses of pico and now goes the the toilet most days, every other day at the very least.

This was after struggling with impaction for so long- it was such a relief.

There's a website called ERIC which gives excellent advice too.

Well the movicol finally worked (in costa coffee this afternoon Smile) I can't believe how such a huge poo can come from such a tiny bum (sorry tmi!)
Tummy ache seems to have stopped thankfully and she was very hungry tonight. I'm going to make a bigger effort with her diet to se if we can avoid this happening again. Thanks for the advice re the ERIC website - some really good info on there especially too for older DD (7) who's still not fully dry at night.
