Any drs/pharmacists around?

DD 8 months 8kgs

Prescribed erythromycin 4x5ml per day (20ml)

This seems like a lot, label says 'max 2ml per kg, or as prescribed by your dr'

GP is shut this pm so I can't check.

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/24475 - is it 250mg/5ml?
if so - here is a Patient information leaflet for it - it looks like standard dose is 2.5ml 4 x daily for this age but can be doubled for severe infections. i would ask the pharmacist who dispensed it if you have concerns, they can contact the prescriber if needed.

It also comes in a 125mg/5ml strength in which case 5 ml x 4 daily would be entirely average/normal.

My 8 year old was prescribed Penicillin last week, even the doctor was surprised that the dose was 500mg 3 x a day. She said that the suggested dose had been increased and re did the sums herself before prescribing - maybe the general protocol has changed - no idea really just my recent experience.

Thanks both

It is 125mg secretspy so that makes sense!
