Threadworms help

Hi my DD is 8, she she has been running back and forth to the toilet for the past two nights complaining of being itchy and sore around her bum, she bites her nails really bad, she isn't in bed yet but itching could this be thread worm? I only have canestan cream in would this help with the itch or do I actually have to see worms before I treat?

Hello! This is kind of icky, but the best way to see if it's threadworm is to wait till about 9/10pm (when they come out to party), and then stick a bit of sellotape over her anus and gently pull it off. Any worms will be caught on it and will be easily visible.

If it IS worms, you can get medicine from the pharmacy that'll kill them in 2 weeks. I think it's called Ovex.

I would deworm her even if you aren't sure - can't do any harm. The whole family will have to take the tablet - you can get a family pack of Ovex with four tablets in for £7ish. We've just been through this with my twins...

Thank you for your replies, she has worms I have now seen them!! Omg she has a lot poor thing we have all had the treatment just waiting for it to work, I have covered her in Vaseline and anusol just hope she is more comfortable tonight it's not nice seeing her so distressed.

Yes poor love. Bloody horrible things. We had them (well my 7yr old son did!) just a couple of weeks ago. I was quite traumatised so no idea how he felt poor thing. Take the tablets, wash all bedding and towels. Clean house thoroughly. Pants at night time. Touch wood I've not seen them since. Good luck
