GROMMETS (7 year old child)

My son has been seen by an NHS consultant who looked at his ears following a couple of hearing tests showing mild glue ear. He has Aspergers (high functioning autism) and finds noisy, random places hard to join in with). The consultant recommended grommets. I have private health insurance but it'll only cover three individual grommets - not pairs Hmm
I can't 'afford' for it to be done by a registrar (consultant said it would be done by a registrar) if there's greater risk of it going wrong - my son is very pain averse and will inevitably be very anxious despite our happy go lucky approach.
Should I go privately and use two of the three grommets we are covered for OR go NHS?
I wonder whether it'll help his behaviour when with larger numbers of children where he struggles most to go into the group and join in.
