Illness following minor head bump

DS bumped heads with another boy yesterday. Said it hurt a bit when it happened but was ok by time I picked him up from school. No bump, bruise, cut etc. Complained of headache and being hot during the night (enough to cry about it).

Still didn't feel right this morning so kept him off school. Temperature possibly slightly high (thermometer not very reliable but forehead doesn't feel hot although torso does). Headache comes and goes. Has slept / dozed all day. Said wanted some food but after about six Cheerios said his tummy hurt. No rash or spots or anything like that.

So what would you do? Assume the bump is just a coincidence and that this is just a normal illness and sit it out or take him to doctor or A&E?

He is 7 and has always refused any medicine so I can only ever manage it by hiding in food / drink and as he won't eat or drink other than water I can't dose him with Calpol which would probably help.

It is probably an illness, but I would ere on the side of caution and give 111 a ring for some advice.

Thanks for responding. Was considering that but my experience of 111 is that (a) you wait hours for them to call back and (b) they then always recommend A&E (where you wait a few more hours) so I really couldn't face it.

However he vomited late afternoon and within 20 minutes was back to his normal self. So no idea what was wrong really but hopefully that has solved it!
