4yo DD ultrasound - any tips?

She's been referred after a few kidney infections. I fear it may be partly due to her not going to the loo often enough (she often needs to be told to go as she'll hold it and hold it until she's dancing around)

So, I often tell her she should go the the loo as soon as she gets the urge.

But on Wed I need to take her with a full bladder... Any advice on getting her to go against all I've told her previously and hold it in?! I want the scan to work, obvs!

And also, not that I'm overly worried, but what are they looking for?!

No advice really on the full bladder just give her a drink in the car on the way there and hope the appointments haven't over run too much!

My DS had ultrasounds on his kidneys as a baby, I imagine in your DD's case they are looking at the size and shape of her kidneys, at the tube that runs between kidney and bladder and at a guess how large her bladder is when full?

Ds1 had this when he was 7. They may just want to check that she's able to empty her bladder properly when she goes to the loo so will scan once with a full(ish) bladder and then ask her to go for a wee and scan again.

She doesn't need to be full to bursting. A drink around an hour or so before you're due to be seen might be enough, but obviously it'll depend on what they're looking for.

Hi ladies! Despite the appt being 25m late the scan went really well. No problems identified (so great they tell you on the spot!) equally no real dramas about bladder-fullness. She said a few times she needed to go & I told her the Dr wanted to see it in the inside - not the toilet! She made me very proud. Also, warm jelly! (Wish i'd been so lucky on maternity wards!!!)

Thanks for the advice though! Every day's a school day eh?!
