I'm waiting for the GP to open to get an appt today.

It's very odd, she hasn't injured her leg at all. She has a bit of a lump in her right groin which is tender to the touch. Then further round, more towards her hip she says she's in agony. Constant ache pain and sometimes jabbing.

She's properly screaming if she walks. Well she can't really walk this morning, she's hopping about clinging onto furniture. She has a history of being a drama lama though. She's 14yo btw.

Anyone come across anything similar while I sit here worrying!

Yes, don't want her getting any post viral stuff. I did read that the pain can carry on for ages after the shingles has finished!

Ds had it at 11. He came back from skiing and a few days later complained of backache, then I noticed a feint rash round his ribs. He made a fairly quick recovery , could attend school as long as the rash was covered but did become unwell again about 2 months later towards end of summer term which seemed post viral. Hope your dd recovers soon.

As soon as I saw you'd mentioned mozzie bites I thought Shingles. I had it at 14 too following a bout of glandular fever. I remember it being very painful. Lots and lots of rest.

ImperialBlether · 19/03/2015 11:00

The stabbing pains are really symptomatic of shingles. I found the surface of my skin didn't hurt but it felt as though there were needles touching the nerves. Very, very painful and tbh you are very run down for quite a long time after the spots have gone.

I wouldn't go skiing that close to shingles. Unfortunately, you can trust me on this one!

I was feeling loads better, but the physicalness of skiing must have wiped it out of me and I fell down the slope. Wasn't good. Lead to pretty bad post-viral fatigue, too.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/03/2015 11:53

Yeah maybe she better not go skiing even if she feels better. I don't want her developing post viral fatigue. I've been reading horror stories of people being fatigued for years after shingles.

I'm waiting for the GP to ring me back about better pain relief for her. A Dr friend of mine mentioned local anaesthetic patches.

She doesn't actually seem tired or wiped out at all. Quite happy playing Minecraft non stop all day!

Yes to patches - I think I had Lidocaine the most recent time I had shingles if I remember correctly.

Subject to doctor and insurance advice could you still go skiing and take it in turns to ski while the others drink hot chocolate and eat lovely food if she is feeling well in herself. Or would it just make you all miserable if you couldn't ski as planned.

I don't know, there is a place we go to in the Dolomites where I would definitely go if I couldn't ski because it is so beautiful and there is somewhere to walk around, lovely shops, restaurants, delis etc. But then I could imagine being bored stiff at other places we have been without skiing.

It's a school ski trip so I can't send her if she's not 100%. Not fair on her or the staff.

Dr only prescribed cocodamol which ain't any use. She needs something specific for nerve pain imho.

Seeing the pain my dd was awful and it was just calpol and nurofen she could take as she was only 4, the anti virals dont actually do anything for whats there already just stops it getting any worse if i remember correctly dds was all down her back and she still has scarring :(

lavendersun · 19/03/2015 20:09

Oh, shame, I didn't realise it was a school trip. I definitely had Lidocaine - in fact I came across a leftover pack earlier.

Cocodamol is horrible for constipation ime - rotten stuff.
