Dd has a lump in her groin and in so much pain she can't walk.

I'm waiting for the GP to open to get an appt today.

It's very odd, she hasn't injured her leg at all. She has a bit of a lump in her right groin which is tender to the touch. Then further round, more towards her hip she says she's in agony. Constant ache pain and sometimes jabbing.

She's properly screaming if she walks. Well she can't really walk this morning, she's hopping about clinging onto furniture. She has a history of being a drama lama though. She's 14yo btw.

Anyone come across anything similar while I sit here worrying!

Swollen gland from infection?

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 07:06

Just googled it and it looks like a likely contender.

She's meant to be going on the school ski trip in 10 days!

lower lymph gland swollen in children is quite serious the GP should see her today, make sure he gives her a blood test

or it could be a boil don't take any chances

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 07:07

That was for the bursitis.

MrsKCastle · 16/03/2015 07:07

Could be a problem with the hip joint, like an infection.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 07:08

I don't think she's got an infection, she doesn't seem unwell.

Saying that she's got a load of mozzie bites on her waist, more round the back. So not in the painful area but I suppose her lymph system could be reacting to that which would explain the lump as being a swollen lymph node?

She hasn't started taking the pill by any chance has she? Or been sitting really still for a long time? Any chance it could be a dvt in her groin?

Or the bites and lump - Lyme disease? Or lupus?

Hope you get an appointment and get it sorted today!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/03/2015 07:23

Yes could be but I think only if they were infected. Hope she gets seen soon

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 07:26

She's notmstarted taking the pill but has been sat on a coach for nearly 24 hours. Obviously they had service station stops and ran round the ferry. Fuck.

It's a nightmare getting an appt especially on a Monday. Will have to take her to a&e if she can't get in at the Dr.

Best of luck Viva, sounds really scary Thanks

MrsKCastle · 16/03/2015 07:32

Yes, you should get her seen today. But try not to worry too much, it will most likely turn out to be something minor.

Bin85 · 16/03/2015 07:33

Abscess?

PacificDogwood · 16/03/2015 07:34

Give her some pain relief, Ibuprofen if she can take it, and yes, make sure she is seen today.

Too many reasons for painful lumps in groin in children to list here.
Hope she's ok Thanks

Bin85 · 16/03/2015 07:34

Push for a scan if you are not getting any answers.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 07:37

She's had ibuprofen and I also gave her an anti histamine incase it was related to the bites.

This is the kid who at 6yo wouldn't weight bear for 24 hours. After 24 hours I decided maybe she wasn't faking it and took her to a&e. She had an X-ray, they said they thought her leg was broken. At which point she jumped off the bed, ran across the room without even a limp and said it felt much better. Hmm

Grin

Well, the Brufen can be a 'trial of treatment'.
I've had a non-walking toddler after a jump/fall from some steps who would not weight-bear who was right as rain after a night's sleep.
They had no lump though, so your DD does need assessment in RL.

better in time to ski?

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 10:20

Dr said we'd have to play it by ear for skiing. Depends on whether they've crusted over and obviously her pain levels.
