Dd has a lump in her groin and in so much pain she can't walk.

I'm waiting for the GP to open to get an appt today.

It's very odd, she hasn't injured her leg at all. She has a bit of a lump in her right groin which is tender to the touch. Then further round, more towards her hip she says she's in agony. Constant ache pain and sometimes jabbing.

She's properly screaming if she walks. Well she can't really walk this morning, she's hopping about clinging onto furniture. She has a history of being a drama lama though. She's 14yo btw.

Anyone come across anything similar while I sit here worrying!

I was just reading the thread and when you mentioned mozzie bites was thinking 'at this time of year?' It's an easy mistake to make though as I initially thought my son had been bitten by an insect (one February!) when it turned out he had chickenpox.

I hope dd is better soon. What a relief for you to have a diagnosis.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 10:23

I did say to my mum isn't it too early in the year for bites. She reckoned it was either due to Paris being a foreign land Hmm or that it could be bed bug bites from dodgy hostel.

I just came on to suggest shingles as I had EXACTLY the same symptoms at 17. I thought I had flea bites on my lower back and had one swollen lymph node. I went to the dr about the lump and he started searching me for signs of possible infection and then I pointed out the 'bites' and hey ho, shingles. I was due to go on holiday the following week too.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 10:44

I always thought shingles was more of a middle aged, old person illness.

How long did it take you to recover from it slightlyjaded

My dd has shingles when she was 4, it took her about a month to be back to normal we had her at the gp really quick and she got antivirals which made her hallucinate!

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 11:14

Dds started the antivirals. Hopefully no hallucinations.

Just told my mum who's adamant the Dr is wrong. Hmm

She reckons the skin would be pink between the spots. Must admit when my dad had it all of his face was bright red.

I've had a closer look and some of them are definite fluid blisters.

Dd has a lump in her groin and in so much pain she can't walk.

My mum had shingles they looked like that

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 12:29

Thanks. Have been googling pictures and it looks like some are more purple all over and some are more like dd.

Not long viva, I wasn't in any proper pain with it (unlike DH who got it at 35 on his face - that was painful!), just itchy. I went on my holiday as planned. The rash was very localised on the trunk and cleared up pretty quickly.

My skin wasn't pink between the spots, it was very like your photo.

SlightlyJadedJack · 16/03/2015 12:54

I think mine was brought on by stress, I was taking my a levels at the time.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 12:57

DD has been very stressed at school. Sad

OP posts:
SlightlyJadedJack · 16/03/2015 13:00

Being stressed / run down affects your immune system and allows the CP virus to reactivate IIRC.

Hope it's a temporary stress for her and nothing too serious.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2015 13:06

Looks like shingles to me. Poor love. Lots of rest for her, school are going to have to bog off for a little bit

bruffin · 16/03/2015 13:16

I had a lump in groin when I had shingles, but the spots were on my bum

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 13:20

She just had a bad falling out with her friends a couple of weeks ago and has taken it badly. I'm sure she'll be ok.

OP posts:
SlightlyJadedJack · 16/03/2015 13:42

Sad I hope she feels better soon and gets to go on her trip and have some fun.

lavendersun · 16/03/2015 13:50

Poor thing, I have had shingles several times. It floored me for a couple of months once, other than that it has been fairly mild.

Always when run down, stressed or pregnant, mine looks similar to the photo too, always in the same area.

I always thought that you had to physically touch a blister to have a risk of catching chickenpox from someone with shingles, is that not the case then re travelling?

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 14:09

Dunno about touching them. GP just said not to go back to school until they've healed.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2015 14:10

I think it's more the pain which will stop her though with it being an active ski holiday. I'm hoping theyll have scabbed over in 10 days.

OP posts:
QOD · 18/03/2015 08:15

How's she feeling?

VivaLeBeaver · 18/03/2015 08:29

Still in lots of pain. Can't weight bear on her leg, can't bear to be touched. Will be sat on the sofa ok and then suddenly starts screaming in pain. Says it burns and stabs suddenly for no reason. But apart from the pain she's ok.

Am going to ring school today to ask about getting work sent home.

OP posts:
QOD · 18/03/2015 09:12

Ah poor thing.
skiing isn't looking likely is it Sad
Hopefully covered by insurance?

Adarajames · 18/03/2015 09:40

If she doesn't feel up to work, don't push it. Shingles is bloody painful often, and to avoid any nasty post viral things she needs to sleep / rest as much as she can; I say this as someone who pushed through illness, including shingles, and has now been off sick nigh on 20 years with ME. Hope she feels better soon
