3yo with bright red ears

My DS3 has got two bright red ears, I mean and incredible colour, really glowing. They're also super hot to touch. They seem ok when I peer inside them but obviously I can't really seen deeply. He doesn't seem too bothered but reacts with great agitation if I try to touch them or ask him about them. He insists they don't hurt but they could heat our house tonight - any idea?

I'm no expert but DS2 (5) gets these. Sometimes one, sometimes both. He had silent reflux until he was one and is lactose intolerant. I haven't pinpointed what it is but it seems to happen when he eats less healthily than normal. My friend has a son with behaviours triggered by food and she's mentioned salicylate sensitivity as a possible cause but I haven't explored that one yet. Could it be food-triggered with your DS?

Hmm, who knows! Thanks, I think it might well be a reaction to something - food or external. He's gone to bed so fingers crossed it'll be gone tomorrow.
