Hello everyone, have not been on here for a very long time and sure there are many threads like this but taking DS 5 to paed this pm and wanted some advice and reassurance. He's had constipation for 18 months now and has numerous soiled accidents. really affecting his confidence, happiness, everything really. Have changed diet to make more high fibre and been on movicol for a month. After initial "clear out" had 2 good weeks of normal stools, feeling sensation in bowel again and able to make it to the toilet. However it's now gone down hill again. He can't feel the poo coming out, and on 1 sachet has constipation and on 2 terrible explosive diarrhea. Neither of which are helping his bowel shrink back to normal size. Am at wits end. DS very distressed. Am worried this is never going to get better :-(

Can you do 1.5 sachets and see how that goes? We fluctuate our ds age 3 doses depending on how he's pooed. Does he drink lots of fluid and eat fruit and veg? Movicol softens the poo by absorbing more liquid from the gut so it can make belly look full and then very loose poo. You can also alternate the doses to have one sachet one day and 2 the next etc. Watch out for loose watery poo that could actually be overflow from around a build up of poo - if that's the case he'll need more movicol. Sorry just random thoughts I'm jotting down here, probably worth asking your doctor for more advice.
